Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the total number of travelers in the Japan tourism industry has significantly decreased compared to previous years. According to the report from the Japan Tourism Agency, the total number of guests stay in Hotel in May 2020 was 7.79 million (84.9% compared to the previous year). The number of foreign guests was 130,000 (-98.7% compared to the same month of the previous year). The ratio of foreign travelers is only 1.7%.

In May 2020, the country of foreign guests was listed by the United States, China, Philippines, Vietnam, and South Korea. The top five countries accounted for 49.3% of the total. The year-on-year rate decreased by 90% compared to the previous year.
